After making my Chocolate Covered Peanut Butter Ritz, I felt like I needed a permanent spot on my site with a Nutella version. Since I put Nutella in almost all of the recipes that I make.

This recipe is the perfect holiday treat for cookie trays or last minute gifts. And if you are searching for more Christmas recipes, I have been loving my Candy Cane Saltine Toffee and my Melted Snowman Nutella Brownies lately.

Key Ingredients

All the ingredients needed to make Chocolate Covered Nutella Ritz laid out on a marble surface.
  • Ritz crackers: I love using the buttery Ritz brand crackers, but the generic store brand works well too. They can even be made gluten free by swapping the Ritz crackers for a buttery gluten free alternative, such as these Lance crackers.
  • Nutella: I always have Nutella on hand, but any chocolate hazelnut spread will do. You can also replace it with a sweet spread like Biscoff spread, or something salty like peanut butter or cashew butter.
  • Chocolate Chips: I use semi-sweet chocolate chips, but you can use whatever flavor of chocolate chips you like. For a more Christmas-like style, I would do white chocolate with Christmas sprinkles.
  • Coconut oil: This helps the chocolate chips melt without burning in the microwave. You can omit this if you are doing the double boiler method for melting chocolate.

Chocolate Covered Nutella Ritz Expert Tips

Storage: Store these chocolate-covered Ritz in an airtight container at room temperature for about a week. If it is warm in your kitchen, store in the fridge to prevent the chocolate from melting or getting too soft.

Adding toppings: If you are adding sprinkles or chopped nuts on top, make sure to sprinkle them on right after dipping into the melted chocolate. You need to do this before the chocolate hardens.

To dip the chocolate: I like to use a fork so that there isn't a lot of excess chocolate pooling at the bottom of the Ritz cracker. You can also purchase chocolate dipping tools to make it easier.

Chill the Ritz sandwiches before dipping. This is optional, but I find it easier to dip since the Nutella Ritz sandwiches will stick together more, and the melted chocolate hardens faster.

  • 24 Ritz Crackers
  • 6 tablespoon Nutella divided
  • cup chocolate chips
  • 2 teaspoon coconut oil

Instructions

  • Line a baking sheet with parchment or wax paper.
  • Spread a ½ Tablespoon of Nutella onto a Ritz cracker. Sandwich another Ritz cracker on top. Repeat with the remaining crackers. Place in the freezer while preparing the next step.
  • In a small microwave safe bowl, microwave the chocolate chips and coconut oil in 30 second intervals, mixing until smooth.
  • Remove the baking sheet from the freezer. Dip the Ritz sandwiches in the melted chocolate, making sure it is completely coated. Return to the baking sheet. Repeat with the remaining sandwiches.
  • Place in the fridge until the chocolate is hardened.

Notes

  1. To store these chocolate covered Ritz, place in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week. If your kitchen is warm, place them in the fridge so that the chocolate doesn't soften.
  2. If you add toppings to these chocolate sandwiches, make sure to sprinkle them on right after you dip the Nutella sandwiches in the melted chocolate. If the chocolate hardens, the toppings will not stick to the chocolate.
  3. Omit the coconut oil if you are using the double boiler method to melt chocolate.
  4. Chill the Nutella sandwiches before dipping into the melted chocolate. While this is optional, I have found that it's easier to dip since the sandwiches are more sturdy and stick together better.
  5. Use a fork to dip the Nutella sandwiches into the melted chocolate to make sure you remove excess melted chocolate. You can also use chocolate dipping tools to make this easier.
