Okay, before anyone gets too confused here, this is not dog food. Look, I was confused when I first saw the name. But puppy chow, sometimes known as Muddy Buddies, makes the best sweet snack. And this Nutella Puppy Chow is perfect for Nutella lovers, or anyone who has a peanut allergy and can't enjoy the original recipe for Puppy chow.

It is now officially 1 month until I go back to school. And while I am sad that summer is halfway over, I am looking forward to getting back into the swing of things. Part of that includes thinking up school or after school snacks. And these Muddy Buddies are a great idea for an after school snack in the upcoming school year.

This doesn't last long at my house at all. Next time I make these, I am going to make a second batch because the first batch was gone within 24 hours. It is that good.

Nutella Puppy Chow Ingredients

These Nutella Muddy Buddies are so easy to make! All you need is:

  • chocolate chips
  • Nutella (or any chocolate hazelnut spread)
  • salted butter
  • vanilla extract
  • Chex cereal
  • powdered sugar

Tips

Storage: Store any leftover puppy chow in an airtight container (A large zip-top bag works well) at room temperature for up to 1 week. If it is very hot in your house, I would recommend storing it in the fridge.

What Chex Cereal to use: I would suggest using either rice Chex or corn Chex. The wheat Chex is too dense, and won't give the texture that you typically think of when you eat puppy chow. If you can find it, you can also use peanut butter Chex.

Try different chocolate chips for the melted chocolate. Instead of semi-sweet chocolate chips, try switching it up with either dark chocolate or white chocolate chips. It gives this recipe a little bit of a refresh if you have made it a lot of times.
