Are you sick of dessert recipes yet?
Well, forget about the ones on your to-do list, and MAKE THESE COOKIES!
I would have never found the recipe for these cookies if I didn’t buy a second hand cookbook a couple of years ago. And hidden within the pages of this cookbook was a newspaper cutout of this recipe, complete with a background story!
Now I’m thinking the story is fictional, but it totally drew me in, and I knew that I needed to make these.
Now a tip about grating the chocolate. I would recommend putting the chocolate in the freezer before you try grating it. Trust me, if you don’t want the chocolate to melt all over your fingers (I know melted chocolate on your fingers sounds delicious, but..) you should chill it beforehand.
So if you’re still stuck on a Valentine’s day treat to make for your sweety, these cookies are perfect. I mean, who wouldn’t want 115 delicious cookies?? They are so good, I’m sure they will forget that they aren’t red and heart shaped.
Below is the newspaper clipping with the cookie recipe and story. Enjoy!!
If you can’t read what the story says, I will quote it below:
The Story
A friend of a friend of a friend had lunch at Neiman Marcus in Dallas last November, and for dessert, she had a cookie. She thought it was the most wonderful cookie she had ever tasted and asked if the recipe was available. She was told that it was, but there was a charge of two-fifty. She said that was fine. She got the recipe and told them to charge it to her account.
In December, when she received her bill, there was a charge for $250.00. She called Neiman’s and told them that it was a mistake- the charge should be $2.50. She was told there he was NO mistake- the charge for the recipe was correct! They told her it was a non-refundable item and she would have to pay the amount or become delinquent.
In the end, she paid.
She vowed to get back at Neiman’s. She decided to give the recipe- FREE- to everyone she possibly could. She asks that everyone who gets a copy sends it to everyone they know.
So here it is!
