Do NOT judge these cookies by their cover. I assure you they taste magical.
These cookies were created because I have a problem. When I go into a grocery store, down the baking aisle, I always get a strange compulsion to buy all the baking ingredients. Like, I have no recipe in mind, I just want to buy them.
And since I somehow opened my shopping bag and found some molasses inside, I thought that I needed to find something to put it in.

Enter these Molasses Chocolate Chip Cookies. Now I know that they don’t look so great, being all flat and all, but they taste divine! I wasn’t going to post this, but I liked them so much that I thought it would be a shame NOT to post them.
Plus, you know. I need more cookie recipes in my life.

I absolutely love the flavor of molasses, but never thought to pair it with chocolate chips. It’s a GENIUS idea, and I’m always game for any cookie that is described as “magical”! YUM!
It is such a good combo!! Thanks Ashley!
But molasses adds such great flavor! Texture, too – I bet these are moist and chewy and wonderful…
They really are. Thanks Anne!
Two awesome ingredients in one delicious cookie! These Molasses Chocolate Chip Cookies look and sound easy and fantastic!
They are! Thanks Tamara 🙂
I love cookies! I’ve never made any with molasses but I have all these ingredients AND a bottle of molasses sitting in my fridge right now!! I’m going to have to give these a try since my kids are on spring break…they’d love these!
Perfect timing! Let me know how they go!
Well, my philosophy is never judge a book by its cover. The most amazing looking recipes can taste like — well I won’t say it. Your cookies look and sound delicious. I like using molasses and just because a cookie is flat does not make it unappealing. And I’m a bit like you, I go to the grocery store and see the potential.
Haha, I totally agree Marisa! Thanks 🙂
I love chocolate chip cookies and addition of molasses will make them ultimate!
So true! Thanks!
I love chocolate chip cookies AND I love molasses cookies, so making this recipe is definitely going onto my to do list. I don’t think these cookies look especially flat. I think they look perfect. In fact, I’m salivating thinking of them. (Imagine me wiping drool off of my chin, and swallowing.) This is a great idea. LOVE IT!
Haha, I am 100% agreeing with you! Thanks Patti!
I don’t see anything wrong with these cookies! They look simply divine!! I love molasses cookies and what recipe doesn’t benefit from adding chocolate chips? 😉 I will be making these soon as I’m a cookie fiend!
Me too!! Thanks Elaine!
i have never baked with molasses but i can almost smell that rich aroma infused with chocolate!
You definitely must!! It is so good!
Ha, you and I have the same problem at the grocery store. I have an opened can of molasses myself and have been looking for recipes to use it up. It is not that easy to find a recipe that’s not somehow Christmassy. Your cookies however are perfect for any time of the year! LOVE the look of them.
So true! They are great during Christmas, but I love them at all times of the year!
What a lovely cookie! The golden color is so tempting. Can’t wait to try.
I hope you do. It is so good!
LOL. I do the same thing when I`m in the baking aisle. I bought a jar of molasses to make muffins MONTHS ago, but I still haven`t made those muffins! Haha. This is a good recipe for me to save in the archives.
My grandmother used to make molasses cookies when I was little. They were her favorites and mine too. But other people I know don't care too much for them—I don't understand that at all!??
