Easy Double Chocolate Banana Bread recipe. The best way to use up brown bananas, this is such a great quick snack idea.
This might be the best banana bread recipe I have made in a long time.
I know that I say this so often, but the whole family agrees with this Double Chocolate Banana Bread is the one! It is the perfect balance of banana bread mixed with a burst of chocolate flavor. It is honestly every chocolate lover’s dream.
I don’t know where the line between chocolate cake ends and banana bread begins, but all I can say is that this banana bread is perfect with your morning cup of coffee.
So if you have a whole bunch of overripe bananas that need using, I urge you to make this banana bread. It is the most moist banana bread recipe, and so easy to make too!
Double Chocolate Banana Bread Ingredients
This classic banana bread is so easy to make. All you need is:
- mashed banana
- white sugar
- unsalted butter (or an oil such as coconut oil or avocado oil)
- large eggs
- sour cream (or Greek yogurt)
- vanilla extract
- unsweetened natural cocoa powder
- all purpose flour
- baking soda
- salt
- chocolate chips (plus extra chocolate chips for the top of the bread)
Tips
Storage: Store any leftover banana bread in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days.
Freezing. This banana bread freezes really well. All you need to do is wrap the entire loaf in plastic wrap (then again in aluminum foil or place in a freezer bag for extra protection against freezer burn) and freeze for up to 6 months. When you are ready to eat it, allow the banana bread to thaw at room temperature or in the fridge. If you want to eat it right away, you can slice it then microwave the slice for a few seconds.
Swap out the cup of chocolate chips. You can replace the semi-sweet chocolate chips with either white or dark chocolate chips. You can also choose something less chocolatey, such as butterscotch or peanut butter chips. I love using chocolate chunks too for a more bakery style type bread.
