Different people deal with stress in different ways. Some people go for a run. Some people listen to music. Some people put miniature marshmallows in their nostrils and snort them out. (What are you looking at me for? I don’t do that… anymore…)
But when someone else is stressed, how can you help them? My solution to that (as is my solution to pretty much anything) is to bake them something. Because what is more comforting than food?
Cookies, to be precise.
You see, while my boyfriend just got back from Russia a few weeks ago, he is going to Toronto to do his masters, so he needs to find an apartment. And you can imagine how hard it is trying to find an apartment somewhere miles away, trying to avoid countless scams.
He has been emailed back by at least 4 missionaries telling him they think he’s responsible and can handle their house…as a reply for 4 different places. Either Toronto is littered with missionaries, or there is some guy scaming people out of their information. So you can imagine the stress coming out of this search.
Because just when you thought that sugar cookies couldn’t get any better, they now come with a crinkled top. How lovely! I should have saved this recipe for Christmas, but maybe stress is a good enough reason to make some sugar cookies.

Crinkled Sugar Cookies
Ingredients
- 1 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup salted butter, softened
- 3 large egg yolks
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp cream of tartar
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350˚F. Lightly spray 2 cookie sheets.
- Cream together the sugar and butter until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg yolks and vanilla.
- Add in the flours, baking soda, and cream of tartar. Stir until fully combined.
- Roll the cookie dough into 1 tablespoon balls, and place on the prepared cookie sheets.
- Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until the cookies are golden.

Love sugar cookies. Especially the kind you don't have to roll and cut with cookie cutters. Can't the school help him out?
Lovely sweet bites, you nailed it my friend
flatenned cookies means a highlight cookies!
I couldn't agree more: baking is one of the best anti-stress therapies.
But for these cookies not only baking them but also eating them sounds like a wonderful anti-stress recipe 🙂
Oh yum, looks like they turned out really well!
Oh I'm sending good thoughts your boyfriend's way. That sounds so stressful! And I think cookies are an excellent way to deal with all the messiness…especially cookies that look as divine as these do!
Yum! Love the crinkled look.
Apartment hunting is stressful enough when you're in the SAME city…can't imagine doing it from afar! Cookies are definitely in order!
Cathleen, I want some of your cookies 🙂
This is the second sugar cookie I've seen on blogs today. And I made some yesterday. Looks like we're all in the cool kid's club.
