This moist Peanut Butter Mug Cake is one of my favorite dessert recipes! It is the perfect treat to satisfy your sweet tooth.

Mug cakes: my new obsession.
Seriously. This week I have made multiple mug cakes. The first mug cake recipe that I made was a failure, but the others.. Well those others have turned out great. I think I’m practicing having barely any kitchen appliances for when I move to Toronto. Sadly I think I’m going to have to leave my food processor and ice cream maker here. The only thing about that is that I almost want to leave behind all my clothing and take all my baking stuff. Is that weird?
But back to this cake. I made this for breakfast (because who DOESN’T want cake for breakfast? Seriously?) and let me tell you, it filled me up and kept me going for a long time.
This might be the best and worst quality of a mug cake. The fact that it takes less than 5 minutes to make a simple cake ready for you to eat? That’s dangerous. This should come with its own warning label. But this is the perfect dessert to make when a sweet craving strikes. It is made in just minutes, which makes it an easy recipe for when you are craving a peanut butter cake.

Peanut Butter Mug Cake Ingredients
You just need a couple of simple ingredients to make this easy peanut butter mug cake recipe. All you need is:
- all-purpose flour
- white sugar
- baking powder
- large egg
- creamy peanut butter
- milk
- oil

Tips
Make sure that you use a microwave-safe mug. There are so many times that I make an amazing mug cake but I use a coffee mug that is not microwave safe. This results in the mug overheating, and your cake to occasionally get a rubbery texture.
Keep an eye on your microwave cake. Different microwaves heat food with a different microwave power. If this is the first time making a mug cake, watch it carefully while it is cooking. Once the cake rises past the top of the mug, pause the microwave for a couple of seconds then turn it back on. You may need to change your cooking time accordingly for next time you make it.
Variations
Switch up the kind of peanut butter you use. Instead of smooth peanut butter, you can use either crunchy or natural peanut butter. You can also use peanut butter powder if that’s all you have on hand. Or any nut butter, such as cashew or almond butter.
Add in some mix-ins. I love adding in a tablespoon of chocolate chips or peanut butter chips. But you can add whatever mix-ins you have on hand.
Top the cake with something decadent. I love adding a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top to make it the perfect single serving dessert. But if I just want a little more of a peanut butter treat, I will add an extra drizzle of peanut butter on top.
