Easy Meatballs in Dijon Gravy
This Easy Meatballs in Dijon Gravy recipe is the perfect quick and simple weeknight dinner idea. The mustard sauce brings this dish to the next level!

Going to leave for Vancouver in 2 days, and we still have a lot of ground beef and assorted vegetables in our fridge. Help!
Good thing meatballs are one of the best freezer meals I know how to make. Now we will also have a meal when we come back on two weeks.
After all, coming back from a long period of no cooking requires some slow transitions into cooking for ourselves again. And this is going to taste great when we come back. Just as long as we don't eat it all before we leave.

There was a time that the only meal John would cook for me was meatballs.
No, scratch that. It was either frozen meatballs from a bag, or another oven ready meal that you can find in the freezer area. Examples: pizza bagels and fries, chicken nuggets and fries.. basically anything, so long as there is fries.
Not that I minded. Clearly I still eat like a teenager. And not like one of my health conscious teenager students. Like a pizza and brownies kind of teenager.
But now that our freezer can basically only fit 3 frozen pizzas, we needed to fend for ourselves and actually learn to cook. Like, real person food.

We have definitely come a long way from our freezer meal days. Sure, we still have the odd frozen pizza (and fries) now and again, but mostly we stick to home cooked meals.
...or fast food.
But, enough about us. Let me talk about these meatballs!!
They are so ridiculously quick and easy to make, these can be whipped up super easily on busy weekday nights, or on lazy weekends. I am talking about meatballs, from start to finish, in 30 minutes.
That is basically like freezer meatballs timing! And it is 10x better for you, made from scratch!
Well, that is depending upon how much gravy you make..
You can eat this with mashed potatoes and veggies, or on top of spaghetti like I did in these pictures. Any way you enjoy these, you can be sure that you will be going back for seconds. And maybe even thirds.
Yeah.. I think that these meatballs are going to be gone long before we leave for Vancouver.

- Place the meatballs in the sauce and cook until the meatballs are heated through.

This looks great, hubby is a meatball freak, & I generally don’t care for them, too meaty, & I don’t like tomato sauce. I’ve tried making some veggie balls, or veggie&meatballs they haven't gone over well, if I like them, he doesn’t. These are still all meat, but look like something I could handle, with that Dijon sauce. Can’t wait to try. What size do you make you meatballs, I prefer small, like less than an ounce, but I usually bake, hubby makes HUGE ones 2-3 ounces & he prefers pan fried like you have done. I know when Pan frying larger/fewer is easier, about how many do you usually make from the recipe?
I made mine with a cookie scoop actually. It varies really how many I make, but it makes quite a bit!
Love this idea! I'm usually stuck with the same old meatballs either in spaghetti sause or mushroom gravy, so this is a really nice addition to my cookbook.
Thanks Ashley! I love how easy they are.
These meatballs look very good. And pizza is a different story, as almost all pizza tastes freaking awesome, but I suspect you will find that many of the frozen/quick stuff you used to like will start to taste not so good.
Geez, I don't think I have bought a hamburger helper in YEARS and the last time I did I wondered what I ever saw in it. I can make the same thing for pretty much the same cost and time, but tastes so much better.
Right??? I totally agree with you Ben!
i'll have to try out that meatball recipe
You really do. It is one of my favourites 🙂
These look so incredibly good. Our family loves meatballs. surprisingly, I like meatballs with salads - weird, I know. Especially when it's Cesar salad. 🙂 These sauce looks so rich! YUM! I would love to try this recipe.
I have never tried meatballs with salad before! Thanks for the idea!
Can the sauce be pre made and frozen also?
I have never tried it premade and frozen, but I am sure it would work well. Let me know if you give that a try!
This looks so good! I love the sauce! It sounds so tasty!
Thanks Lisa! I am addicted to these meatballs 🙂
Why did you rate it 5 stars if you havent tried it?
I agree. Has anyone actually tried the sauce?
I'm drooling!! These look so delicious - I can imagine serving them with some egg noodles - yum!
Ooh, that sounds amazing! I will need to try out that idea. Thanks Stephanie!
This recipe looks so interesting! I definitely love a good meatball dish for a party, especially in a non-traditional sauce. I tend to just go straight for the meatballs, though. I'll have to try them over noodles!
Haha, eating plain meatballs is a-okay too. Thanks Samantha!
I love meatballs but I still haven’t made them from scratch . This recipe sounds delicious. I’ll have to make it . My fiancé would probably eat the whole pot lol
Haha, mine almost did too!!
Delicious! One of my go to’s for over a year now.
That makes me so happy to hear 🙂
These look so good. We love meatballs around here! I pinned.
Thanks for the pin! 🙂
Must try this! Looks and sounds delicious!
It is so good! One of my favourite dinner ideas.
Meatballs are a favourite of my husband's and I love the spice combination in this!
Thanks! Meatballs are a sure win for dinner 🙂
Just the right time for me to see this recipe as I have some meatballs in my freezer and have been wondering what to do with them. So far, the ways I know of cooking meatballs are: Italian style (with soffrito, tomato purée, beef stock, red wine, garlic, oregano and Parmesan, then served with pasta, or courgetti if I'm feeling virtuous), Swedish style (in gravy with Philadelphia Light mixed into it to make it creamy, then served with mashed potatoes and peas) or something I found on an American recipe site once which sounds vaguely Tex-Mex, although I gather from the measurements in your recipe that you're from the other side of the pond, so you'll probably raise an eyebrow at that (with black beans, pinto beans, BBQ sauce, smoked paprika, chilli flakes and cheddar, then served with sweet potato wedges). However, I might try a Dijon mustard sauce now you've given me the idea, and maybe think up some French accompaniments.
Ooh, your meatball combos sound fantastic! I really would love to give those a try!
This was perfect and tasty..I used everything but the beef broth. I used brown seasoning it’s a bit thicker so I didn’t need much.
So glad you liked it 🙂
I think when you are young the freezer is your best friend, seriously who has time to cook when you are young. I lived of freezer meals and fast food. Now I am all grown up and old...lol I tend to home cook most of the time but still, on busy days the freezer can still be an old friend worth visiting. My fella would flip for this dish its right up his alley.
The freezer really is my best friend!
Haha, as if these will last until before you go, I bet they're long gone by now! 😀 It looks absolutely delicious! Meatballs might be easy to make, but you can make so many different varieties, and the reward is so satisfying 😀
I hope you have a lovely time in Vancouver! xx
To be honest, they are almost gone 😉 Thanks!!
