I haven’t been talking about this lately, because it just doesn’t seem real. My brother found a job in England, and went there a few weeks ago. We’re still emailing each other, but it’s weird that we won’t see each other face to face on a regular basis.
I mean, it’s nice that he’s going back to our home country. It will give me an excuse to go back to England and explore the place where I grew up.
So in honor of him being in England, I decided to make some crumpets (and some Earl Grey tea of course).
These crumpets turned out perfect. Like a smaller, spongy-er pancake. Just slather on some butter, and you’re good to go. But make sure you make some tea and drink it with your pinky finger extended. Make it classy.

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups warmed milk
- 450 g all-purpose flour
- 5 g instant yeast
- 2 tsp granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 cups warm water
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp baking powder
Instructions
- Whisk together the milk, flour, yeast and sugar. Once combined, add half the water and beat it into the batter, slowly adding the remaining water until the batter is smooth and thick. Cover with cling film and leave it in a warm area for 1-2 hours.
- Whisk in the salt and baking powder and heat a large skillet over medium heat, and spray with cooking spray.
- With an ice cream scoop, scoop the batter onto the prepared pan and flip when bubbles are covering the surface. Cook the other side for around 2-3 minutes.

Crumpets just sound, like, so very British. I've never tried them and though I would rather fly to London tomorrow to eat them, I guess I will just have to make them myself. Now you can visit your brother!
I have never had a home made crumpet, it looks delicious! Very awesome for your brother, but it stinks you will miss him.
Home made crumpets are the best, and it's so easy to flavor it any way and turns out perfect…
