Tips & Tricks

Can I use quick oats? You can use quick oats if you want to make this recipe faster. I personally prefer the texture of rolled-oats more, but it really is a personal preference. Quick oats usually cook in around 1 minute on the stovetop, or you can make it in the microwave. The only think with quick oats is that you should let it cool at room temperature before eating it so that the oats absorb more of the liquid.

Make this oatmeal vegan. Instead of using regular dairy milk, swap it out with some dairy free options. Personally, I love oat milk when making vegan oatmeal, but almond milk or soy milk work well too. As for the frosting, you can find some vegan frosting online or make it yourself! The best part about making it yourself is that you can customize it to your preferences.

Take this oatmeal to the next level! Adding some crushed up candy canes would make this oatmeal more festive. Elevate the flavor a little more with some vanilla extract or add in some warm spices. If you wanted some extra sweetness, add in some chocolate chips or some maple syrup to top. It's a holiday after all!
