Picture this: your Christmas guests are coming and you notice within minutes of them showing up that you have a bunch of beautifully ripe bananas. The only problem is, they are only beautiful if you are a baker. Seeing browning bananas on the clean counter is hardly a coveted table decoration.
There is no time to make a banana bread, but you want to impress them with your baking prowess. What do you do?
If it were up to me, this Banana Nutella Mug Cake would be my go-to save for this situation.
Alternatively, this (along with my favorite microwave oatmeal recipe) is my go-to recipe when I only have one ripe banana in my house. I mean, you don’t want to eat this browning banana, but then again, you can’t really make a banana bread with it unless you want to buy another bunch of bananas and wait until they go brown too. *Sigh* Foodie troubles.
So whatever your situation is, if you have one, two… ten ripe bananas, you should seriously consider this mug cake. You won’t regret it.

Tips
Do I have to use a coffee mug? You can either use a microwave-safe mug, a microwave-safe bowl or an oven-safe ramekin. Just make sure that whatever you are using is microwave safe, otherwise you may overcook the mug cake.
Keep an eye on the mug cake! Because different microwaves may heat things differently, if this is the first time making a mug cake you should watch it while it is cooking. If the mug cake starts to overflow, stop the microwave. Then start it again, pausing it every 15-30 seconds until you reach 1.5 minutes. Based on your microwave, you may need to adjust the cooking time.
Make a vegan version. Use a vegan chocolate hazelnut spread, and replace the milk with soy milk, almond milk or your favorite non-dairy milk.
Add in your favorite mix-ins. I’m a chocolate person, so I love adding dark chocolate chips or chocolate chunks to the mix. But you can also add nuts, dried cranberries or sprinkles if you like.

Delicious! Soft chocolate cake with some juicy chocolate parts and a hint of banana. I love to add a bit of cinnamon after baking it in the microwave. It’s so easy but so good! Next time I’ll try it with some vanilla or banana ice cream and whipped cream!
The addition of cinnamon sounds fantastic. So glad you liked it!
