Pear and Apple Crisp

Easy Pear and Apple Crisp recipe. This simple dessert recipe is the perfect mix of fall flavours to satisfy your sweet tooth.

Pear and Apple Crisp

This is the best time of the year. When pear season coincides with apple season. The two flavours are just meant for each other.

And this Pear and Apple Crisp might be my new favourite way to use them both in one recipe.

Pear and Apple Crisp

What do you need to make this Pear and Apple Crisp?

Just some fruit and some pantry essentials. All you need is:

  • pears
  • apples
  • brown sugar
  • flour
  • vanilla
  • cinnamon
  • nutmeg
  • salt
  • butter
  • oats

That's it!

Pear and Apple Crisp

Is this a crumble or crisp?

Whenever I make apple crisps, I always get asked what the difference is between an apple crisp and an apple crumble.

They are very similar, and quite honestly don't really deserve a separate name to distinguish between the two. They both have a combination of flour, butter and sugar as a topping, but crisps typically mix in oats, whereas crumbles will use nuts.

Whatever you call this Pear and Apple Crisp, it is delicious nonetheless.

Total Time: 55 minutes

Ingredients

Filling

  • 5 medium pears, peeled and sliced
  • 3 medium apples, peeled and sliced
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Topping

  • ¾ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup salted butter, cold
  • 1 cup rolled oats

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F. Lightly spray a 9x13 inch baking pan with cooking spray and set aside.
  • In a large bowl, mix together all of the filling ingredients. Pour into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly on the bottom.
  • In a food processor, pulse all of the "topping" ingredients except for the oats until the butter looks like coarse meal. Mix in the oats and spread evenly on top of the fruit mixture.
  • Bake in the oven for around 40-45 minutes. Allow to cool for around 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  1. Using rolled oats gives the best texture, but you can use quick oats.

I usually make crumble rather than crisp. It's about the same just without the oats but I want to make a change and make a crisp instead and not just with apples. Adding pears is a great idea. Perfect for the season!

    1. I alternate between the two, but I always have wayyyy too many oats on hand so this is my typical recipe. Hope you give it a go 🙂

Apple crisp is one almost as popular as apple pie in my home, but I love this recipe with pears too. What a delicious way to change things up a bit this fall, but still keep it super delish!
