Healthy Applesauce Baked Oatmeal recipe. Made with oats, applesauce and chia seed, this makes a quick and easy breakfast idea.
I am sure this is no surprise, but I have a little bit of an oatmeal obsession. Christmas oatmeal, ice cream oatmeal, berry oatmeal… I really don’t discriminate, I love them all. But it has been a while since I made a good old fashioned baked oatmeal.
Actually, it has been so long that I am almost too embarrassed to link up my old baked oatmeal recipes because the photos are.. how do I put this nicely. The photos are a tad bit unpolished.
What you need to make Applesauce Baked Oatmeal
This uses mainly pantry staples. All you need is:
- quick & old fashioned oats
- white sugar
- baking powder
- salt
- cinnamon
- chia seeds
- milk
- applesauce
- eggs
- vanilla extract
Something that I have been loving lately is putting chia seeds into my oatmeal. It makes the oatmeal a lot thicker, and adds extra nutrients so that you can start off your morning RIGHT.
The only downside to adding chia seeds in your morning breakfast is the embarrassing moment when you find chia seeds stuck in your teeth halfway through the day. Pro tip: brush your teeth after eating! Most days I brush my teeth before breakfast, but when you are having chia seeds.. that’s a different story.
Now that it is almost December (how is it already this week??) I am going to have to try to think up some Christmasy recipes for the holidays.
Of course, I will try to make another Christmas oatmeal recipe this year, but I am wondering if I should do a full on baked oatmeal or my go-to stove-top ones? Stove-top ones are so quick and easy, but baked oatmeal? I will have leftovers for DAYS. Perfect for the busy holiday season.
This will be a tough decision. In the meantime, I am cranking up the Christmas tunes and putting peppermint in everything.
Please tell me I am not alone!

- Pour the oatmeal into the prepared baking dish and bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until edges are golden brown.
Excellent recipe. Have used it twice! this week. Passing along a secret. After making this one night to get ahead of a busy morning… hot right out of the oven, the aroma was sumptuously intoxicating. So much so it begged to be served up as a little dessert topped with a scoop of frozen vanilla yogurt. It was so good.
Oh man, you know how to do it right!! I will definitely try this out! 🙂
What a fantastic breakfast and brunch oatmeal idea! Really enjoy your pics too! Thanks so much for sharing :).
Thanks Daniela! It is so good in the morning 🙂
Love oatmeal but never had baked one, now I have to make this one as it looks rather so delicious.
It is so good! A must make for sure 🙂
Only until I became and adult did I truly find my love and appreciation for oatmeal. This looks yummy and really seems super easy. Adding this one to my list of ‘things I need to make!’
Same here!! All those years as a kid wasted in oatmeal experimentations! Thanks Lori 🙂
Well, I know what I’m having for breakfast after I buy a package of chia seeds. It looks so scrumptious. Much better than plain old oatmeal. Not only do you have lots of good-for-me ingredients but the taste sounds just like what we love.
Yes!! It is so good 🙂
I’ve never had baked oatmeal but I would love to try! It seems like adding chia seeds makes for a nice texture. P.s. Love oatmeal too! 🙂
You seriously need to try it! It is a game changer 🙂
I cringe at some of my old photos too! These are great though, as is this recipe. We eat a lot of baked oatmeal around here, everyone loves it!
