Black Forest Cake Oatmeal

Easy Black Forest Cake Oatmeal recipe. A decadent breakfast idea that tastes like dessert but is actually fairly healthy.

Black Forest Cake Oatmeal

Cherries are in season, so I am going to be making all things cherry for the next couple of months. Gotta make the most of my favourite summer fruit.

Starting with this Black Forest Cake Oatmeal. Happening on repeat during the summer.

What do you need to make this Black Forest Cake Oatmeal?

This uses mainly pantry essentials. And cherries, which are basically pantry essentials in the summer. All you need is:

  • milk
  • old fashioned oats
  • cocoa powder
  • brown sugar
  • cherries
  • whipped cream
  • grated chocolate

Can you use quick oats?

Probably the most asked question on my oatmeal recipes is if you can use quick oats. The answer is yes, you can use quick oats if that is all you have. However, Old Fashioned Oats makes the oatmeal so much heartier and the texture so much better. Plus, if you are doing it solely for convenience, it will only save you about 1 minute of cooking time which I don't think is worth it.

Steel cut oats wouldn't be ideal either. They take a lot longer to cook on the stovetop, so if you truly are in a hurry to eat breakfast, old fashioned oats (rolled oats) is your best friend.
