Can you believe that the last time that I posted something that wasn't either a dessert or a sweet breakfast was when I posted my feta, chickpea and kale salad on December 10th? That's last year people!

Okay, I know that was a little dramatic. But still, almost a month ago. It seems like I'm some kind of energizer bunny that can only function off of sugar.

Which might not be too much of an exaggeration...

So here we go. A savory recipe for you. Unless you want to add some sugar to this and call it kettle corn. I would be down for that.

I can't believe I ever bought microwave popcorn! This is so easy, and SO much better for you! I am aligning this with people who both love their popcorn, but made a New Years resolution to eat healthier. Am I the best or what?

So make everyday movie night. Or at least popcorn night. It's ready in under 3 minutes, so really, there is no excuse.

Prep Time: 1 minute
Cook Time: 2 minutes
Total Time: 3 minutes

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoon popcorn kernels
  • 1 brown paper bag
  • seasoning of choice (I like it plain, but adding salt and chili powder is really good as well)

Instructions

  • Add the popcorn kernels to the brown paper bag.
  • Close the bag by folding the top of the bag one or two times.
  • Microwave for around 2 minutes. It really depends on your microwave, but you should be listening to the popcorn as it’s in the microwave. When you haven’t heard a pop for 3ish seconds, stop the microwave and remove.
  • Open the bag and add seasonings. Close the bag and shake well. Enjoy!

  1. haha, I love that you posted this recipe! I just found out that microwave popcorn bags have something in them that's really bad for you...and while I was pregnant, and now breastfeeding, I've been really careful about what I put into my body. Thanks for this shortcut!!!

  3. I first discovered this tip about a year ago and I can't believe I had gone my whole life without knowing about it! I grew up using popcorn maker but have resorted to buying microwave popcorn during my adult life. Such a good idea and so much healthier for you!

  4. It is true! I've made this for a long time and it is the best. Makes me think those popcorn companies think that we can't do it ourselves!

  5. Hi Cathleen,

I know. Writing blog posts is not as easy as most people would think... These pop corns will surely energize your day and also your blog writing 😀

    Happy popping and happy blogging...

  6. Love how simple this is. I don’t have a popcorn maker yet and I have a bag of popcorn kernals in my pantry calling my name. I didn’t want to do them in oil on the hob, so now I can pop the kernels and then throw all kinds of extras on top, ha!

Odd thing is, I wouldn’t even know where to find brown bags like that. I bet it could be done with baking paper instead!

  7. It's....this simple?! *mindblown* what a great tip Cathleen, thank you so much 😀 And the flavour varieties are ridiculous. I think the last types of "surprisingly" good flavours were Indian spice, cinnamon (ok not much of a surprise, but cleeever!) and coconut and vanilla 😀
I hope you are having a lovely Wednesday xx

  8. I have a bunch of kernels in the pantry and didn't know how to use them in the microwave! Thanks 🙂
