Chocolate Protein Mug Cake

Knowing how to make mug cakes is dangerous. Any time I have chocolate cravings I will make a mug cake. One of my decadent, over the top ones that are usually topped with ice cream. Since I have a massive sweet tooth, it seems like I always want a sweet treat to satisfy these cravings. But I thought, there must be a healthy way to make mug cakes. Well, THIS IS IT.

I have tried making an easy protein mug cake recipe before, but it always turned out to have a rubbery texture and taste very plain. But I think that I have finally cracked the code.

This chocolate protein mug cake tastes like chocolate cake, it also packs in some extra protein to keep you full until your next meal. It would make the perfect post-workout snack or healthy dessert satisfy your sweet tooth.

Tips and Tricks

You can make this into a vegan protein mug cake! For the milk, you would use a non-dairy milk such as unsweetened almond milk, coconut milk or, my favorite, oat milk. Make sure that you are using plant-based protein powder instead of whey protein powder.

Make this a vanilla mug cake. Instead of using the chocolate flapjack mix, you can use the regular one. Then you can use vanilla protein powder in place of the chocolate one. Add in some vanilla extract to the wet ingredients, place in a microwave-safe mug and microwave according to full recipe card below.

Enhance that chocolate flavor! If you really want to make this chocolate mug cake recipe even more chocolatey, add in some dark chocolate chips and a teaspoon of unsweetened cacao powder. You could even top the finished cake with some melted chocolate chips for an extra oomph.

Don't have a mug large enough? This recipe calls for a large mug, but using a small bowl would work as well. Just make sure that you check on it regularly while it is cooking in the microwave, as the shallower the bowl, the more different results this method could produce.
