What is this? Another mug cake?
Can you FEEL how addicted I am to these? They are like your own personal dessert, and no one needs to know that you made it! One quick wash of a cup, and all the evidence of your broken diet, vow to not eat chocolate, whatever is gone!
Now that is something I can sink my teeth into!
If you were to ask me which of the mug cakes that I have made recently is my favorite, I would have to say this one. Hands down. Maybe the peanut butter mug cake comes in a close second, but this one I’d say is pretty perfect.
And after a grueling week, you deserve it!

One Minute Chocolate Mug Cake Ingredients
This One Minute Easy Chocolate Mug Cake uses only 8 simple ingredients. All you need is:
- unsweetened cocoa powder
- all purpose flour
- pinch of salt
- white sugar
- baking powder
- neutral oil (I love coconut oil, but vegetable oil or canola oil work well too)
- milk
- small splash of vanilla extract
That’s it!!
Tips
To make this mug cake vegan: all you need to do is use a non-dairy milk in place of the whole milk. I suggest either coconut milk or oat milk to maintain the same fluffy cake texture, but I have used both soy milk and almond milk with success.
Make sure you keep an eye on your microwave mug cake while cooking. Depending upon the size of your microwave-safe mug, it may be prone to spilling out of the top of the mug while its cooking. I recommend a large coffee mug for this recipe, but if you have a smaller mug it will boil over in your microwave oven. Also, different microwaves cook things differently. Take note of how long it takes for the cake to cook, and if it starts to overflow stop the microwave then restart it again after a couple of seconds. Then next time, you will know how long it will take to cook.
Variations
Add in your favorite mix-ins. I love adding in chocolate chips, but fresh fruit or nuts work well too! I like adding half the toppings halfway through so they don’t sink to the bottom of the mug.
Top it with your favorite toppings. This mini chocolate cake pairs so well with a scoop of ice cream, or chocolate frosting. But you could also top it with chocolate hazelnut spread, whipped cream or whatever else you have on hand.

I was so excited to see this recipe because I always love the idea of little, personal mug cakes – something easy to whip up when you just need a super-fast, small dessert. But honestly, I rarely make them because they’re usually not one bit healthy … so I was super happy to scroll down to the recipe card and see that your version really is much healthier! Game on!!
