Easy Ninja Creami Grapefruit Italian Ice recipe. This frozen treat is the perfect way to use up any leftover grapefruit juice!
The Ninja Creami ice cream maker has been a game changer as a mom of a toddler.
Every night, dinnertime is a struggle. The only thing that will get my child to eat all of his food is to promise a delicious treat for after he is done. Of course, then I need to think of a delicious AND healthy treat. This is where the Ninja Creami comes in.
I have been experimenting with all kinds of healthier homemade ice cream lately. Basically, I look up the most popular ice cream flavors at my local ice cream store and try to recreate those. The good news is I don’t think that I have bought an ice cream from the grocery store or an ice cream shop in such a long time. But lately, my son has been requesting Italian ice, so we have been on an Italian ice kick lately.
While this Ninja Creami Grapefruit Italian Ice was a little to tart for my 3 year old, me and my husband loved it. It is almost like a pallet cleanser. It is perfect to eat after dinner, or as a snack on hot summer days.
What is Italian ice?
The main difference is the texture. While both are dairy free, a scoop of sorbet will have a very smooth texture, whereas Italian ice is more icy and grainy.
Ninja Creami Grapefruit Italian Ice Ingredients
This is super easy recipe is almost embarrassing to write about. But if you want the ingredient (singular), here it is:
- grapefruit juice
Yup. That’s it!
Equipment
- Deluxe Ninja Creami machine (note that the regular Ninja Creami container does not have the Italian ice setting)
- Ninja Creami pint container
Tips
Try using another juice. instead of grapefruit, try using cranberry, apple or orange juice! Just fill the pint containers to the max fill line, freeze and process on Italian Ice setting.
Add more sweetener. This Italian ice as is is not very sweet. If you like a sweeter treat, add in either some sugar or simple syrup to taste.
Do not use the sorbet button. While it is tempting to think you can make grapefruit sorbet with this mixture, do not press that button! This is basically a block of ice, and that button processes the mixture extremely quickly. If you tried to make it a Ninja Creami sorbet, you may risk breaking your machine.
Add in some fresh fruit. Fresh or frozen fruit would add a great additional flavor to this Italian Ice. I would suggest fresh strawberries for more spring flavors, or some cranberry sauce if you are making this closer to the fall season.
