I have never been to Mexico. Pretty much everyone I know has, but I’m still one of those people who haven’t gone on a vacation since the stone ages. There was a period of 4 years that I was traveling a lot, I went to England twice, and to the Philippines (pretty much both places to visit family)
So I’m not actually sure if this is actually coffee popular or made in Mexico, but I combined recipes I found online that claimed they were “Mexican coffee” so I am going about this on blind faith.
I love making different variations to the coffee I drink. You know, since I drink coffee almost ALL the time, I would like to switch it up. Try something new. And I’m quite satisfied with this. But that’s not going to stop me from experimenting more…

Makes 1 drink
What you’ll need:
-1 1/2 tablespoons ground coffee
-1 whole clove
-1/2 (3 inch) cinnamon stick
-1 1/2 cup water
-1 tablespoon brown sugar
-1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
-1 tablespoon chocolate syrup
Directions
1. Combine the ground coffee, clove and cinnamon stick in a coffee filter and put in a drip coffee brewer. Pour water into the brewer’s water reservoir. Set coffee brewer to brew.
2. After the coffee is brewed, pour into a mud and mix in sugar, vanilla and chocolate syrup.

Wow, this is the exact coffee I want EVERY morning! I love that you use cloves and chocolate…this warms my belly just thinking about it. I've had Mexican hot chocolate (and love it), and adding this same flare to my coffee sounds like such a treat! Thanks a bunch for stopping by my site – I'm psyched to see your delicious and nutritious recipes and am looking forward to more of your posts!
I like my coffee with milk but I think I can try this one with chocolate syrup and spices in it.
Coffee with a different twist…..
Event: Dish name starts with M
So you've been to Philippines ! Have you tried eating balut ?! 😀
At the rate you're making your own coffee , the next time you're in Starbucks , they won't remember you anymore ! lol
This Mexican coffee sounds delicious ! Love the spices you've added !
Aaah….coffee, it's a must for me in the morning or else everything is not in working order for me…. hee….With the spices in, this must be a flavourful coffee. I never had anything like this before. Should I try?
You should definitely try it, it is maybe my new favorite way to make coffee!
Oh, I know the feeling. Not only have I never been to Mexico, I haven't been on a real vacation in a few years now. But at least we can taste other cultures through food, right? 🙂 I've never heard of Mexican coffee before, but I just adore Mexican chocolate!
love all the flavors going in there…
This sounds like a delicious pick-me-up!
I like my coffee plain with just a bit of milk or a simple latte with no additional flavors or sugar. However, every once in a while, my boyfriend would secretly add stuff to my coffee (cocoa, sugar, cinnamon, melted chocolate) and that totally brightens up my day. I should allow myself these sweet pleasures more often, right? P.S. I went to a bar once and ordered Mexican coffee (it had some Kahlua and it was awesome!).
I'm not a coffee drinker, but the cinnamon mixed in with the chocolate sounds wonderful!
I'm a coffee freak too.. Would love to try this Mexican version!
I just love it!
I am a coffee addict too! But I will stick to my regular Filter coffee..I won't able to adjust a slight change in the coffee taste! 😉
Your version looks interesting! 🙂
Hi Cathleen, love your Mexican coffee. Thanks for sharing the recipe.
Have a nice day, regards.
What a great idea–my coffee addiction could use some variety as well!
