Whenever I look in my spice cupboard and see that I have only about ¼ teaspoon of a particular spice left, what is my first instinct? Not to buy more. Oh no, that sounds like something a normal person would do. I obviously dump it into the next drink I make.

Like the time I made Chili White Hot Chocolate. Now that was a good drink. I would never had put chili powder in a drink had I had more than ¼ teaspoon of this spice. It's a compulsion I tell you!

It just started raining again after some gorgeous days we've been having, so I needed something warm and comforting in this cold weather. And this Ginger Hot Chocolate really hits the spot. The best part is, it's so easy to make! It's the perfect drink to start your morning off, or to relax with at night.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk of choice
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 teaspoon maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
  • 2 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
  • pinch of sea salt
  • ½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • whipped cream

Instructions

  • Heat the milk and water in a small saucepan. When it begins to simmer, lower the heat and whisk in the agave syrup, white sugar, ginger, cocoa and sea salt until fully combined.
  • When the hot chocolate is at your desired temperature, remove from heat and stir in the vanilla.
  • Pour into a mug and top with whipped cream.

Notes

I like to shred a little chocolate on top of the whipped cream, but that is totally optional.
