This Bacon Stovetop Mac and Cheese recipe is so easy to make, you will be wondering why you haven't made it sooner. All you need is:

  • butter
  • flour
  • milk
  • bacon
  • pasta
  • salt
  • garlic powder
  • cheddar cheese

That's it!

So my version in these photos is technically not mac and cheese. I mean, can you really have mac and cheese without the macaroni? 

I just ran out, and this was the only pasta that I had on hand. That is another great thing about this recipe. It's so versatile, swap out whatever you have no hand!

Bacon Stovetop Mac and Cheese

Easy Bacon Stovetop Mac and Cheese recipe. This creamy pasta is ready in under 30 minutes and makes a great weeknight dinner idea.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoon salted butter
  • 2 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups water
  • 4 cups milk
  • 5 slices bacon
  • 1 lb uncooked pasta of choice
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 4-5 cups cheddar cheese, shredded

Instructions

  • In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium-high heat. Mix in the flour and cook for around 1 minutes. Pour in 1 cup of water and whisk until smooth and begins to thicken. Slowly pour in the remaining water and milk, stiring until evenly combined.
  • Meanwhile, cook the bacon until crispy. Crumble in a small bowl. Set aside.
  • Mix in the pasta, salt and garlic powder into the milk mixture, stiring occasionally until the mixture begins to simmer. Reduce heat and allow to simmer for around 9-10 minutes, or until the pasta is al-dente.
  • Remove from heat and mix in the cheese until melted. Fold in the bacon and serve immediately.

Notes

  1. You can replace bacon with whatever mix-ins you want.
  2. You can use any kind of pasta that you have on hand.
