Easy 4 ingredient Dark Chocolate Salted Caramel Cups recipe. A great last minute dessert idea that takes under 5 minutes to make.
Can you believe that there was once a time where I hated peanut butter cups? I remember when I was younger, I would always trade my Reeces Peanut Butter Cups from my Halloween stash for gummy candies or any other kind of chocolate. And if I couldn’t get a trade, I would just give them to my parents. They were my least favorite candy. But now I can’t get enough of them! I have been making these almond butter cups on repeat lately, switching them up from almond butter, to peanut butter and back.
Despite my newfound love of peanut butter cups, some days I want to switch it up and go for a sweeter filling. My 10 year old self would kill for these Dark Chocolate Salted Caramel Cups.
These chocolate caramel cups are great because I can actually bring them to my tree nuts and peanut free school. I am letting myself have one dessert type food per day, something that is VERY difficult for me. Last week all I wanted was sea salt caramels. Right now, all I am choosing are these Dark Chocolate Salted Caramel Cups.
The sweet caramel pairs so well with the sprinkle of sea salt on top. One of my biggest cravings is a sweet and salty dessert, and these Dark Chocolate Salted Caramel Cups crush all my cravings.
Depending on what caramel spread and chocolate chips you use, you can make this vegan, making this dessert an allergy free dessert. That means you can share it with more people, right? Plus it is made without corn syrup, so it is basically high quality health food, right?
After trying them, you may not even want to share it with many people. If John were still living here, I might need to hide them in my secret hiding spot at the back of the freezer. You don’t know how many times I have made something in the morning, and when I come home from work in the evening John has eaten almost all of it.
Trying to find the silver lining to our long distance relationship. More Dark Chocolate Salted Caramel Cups for me might be the only thing on the positive side.
Dark Chocolate Salted Caramel Cups Ingredients
You only need 4 ingredients to make these salted caramel dark chocolate cups. All you need is:
- dark chocolate chips – or any kind of chocolate you like.
- coconut oil – cocoa butter or unsalted butter can also work here.
- caramel spread – you can also use homemade caramel sauce instead.
- coarse sea salt – I also love flaky salt too.
That’s it!
Tips
Make them in a mini muffin pan! Don’t want such a large dark chocolate salted caramel cup? Make little cups in a mini muffin tin instead! Just line your mini tin with mini cupcake liners, then make the recipe according to the recipe card.
Use a different chocolate. Don’t like the rich dark chocolate flavor? Use whatever chocolate you like best! I have made them with both semi-sweet and milk chocolate chips with success.
Storage: Store these salted caramel chocolate cups in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days. I would not recommend storing at room temperature, as the chocolate may melt depending on the temperature in your kitchen.
Use silicone liners. While paper liners work just fine, silicone liners ensure that the melted chocolate doesn’t stick to the muffin liners.
