This was made because I have never tried vanilla bean paste, and I somehow couldn’t justify buying a jar myself.
So whenever I would see vanilla bean paste on a recipe that I really wanted to make, I would just pout and not make it. Because I thought that there was some vanilla bean recipe club and I wasn’t invited. Even though it’s really my fault I wasn’t making these recipes. My irrational brain forgot that the quickest fix to start making these recipes is to actually buy a jar of the stuff.

Or is it??
I am always super excited to see a recipe for something that would be quicker to actually make at home than going out to the store to buy it. So you couldn’t imagine my delight to find this recipe for vanilla bean paste. Because I had all of the ingredients in my house. All three ingredients!
You seriously can’t find a recipe easier to make than this one. All you need is: vanilla beans, vanilla extract and maple syrup (or agave nector). That is it!
The equipment may be the one thing you might not have. I suggest a good quality food processor, a fine mesh strainer and a mason jar to store it all in. All the products I use for this is linked under the recipe.
You will be sure to see more recipes using this paste to come. Possibly (but most probably) in cookie form!

Vanilla Bean Paste
Ingredients
- 6 vanilla beans
- 4 tsp pure vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup maple syrup (or agave nector)
Instructions
- Place all of the ingredients in a food processor, and pulse until smooth.
- Place a fine mesh strainer over a bowl and pour the vanilla mixture over it. Press the vanilla bean pulp to get as much liquid out. Pour the vanilla bean paste into a sealable jar.
I made this recipe but now I’m told if using maple syrup its not shelf stable and will go bad? Also can’t put in frig?
What can I do?
Thanks for any help
Deb
You can keep it in the fridge if you like!
I used vanilla beans from Madagascar. Which is supposed to be one of the best places for vanilla beans. Yet they were marked only Grade B.
Do you know how long will this keep? Or what is the best way to keep it longer? I just made 1 cup, what was I thinking?!
It keeps for a very long time. Because of the minimal ingredients, you can store it in the fridge for as much as a year and it will still be good!
Hello, finally it work to make vanilla paste only use vanilla powder, thank you very much
Glad you got it to work!
Thank you for the wonderful recipe, in here I use both vanilla bean and vanilla powder for the vanilla bean paste.
That sounds amazing! Glad you liked it 🙂
