Easy Melted Marshmallow Hot Chocolate recipe. A fun way to warm up on a cold day, this drink will help you satisfy your sweet tooth.
For those nights in the winter months where all you want to do is crawl up inside a blanket and drink a big cup of hot chocolate.
These days should be fewer and fewer as summer is fast approaching, but it will never end for me. It’s comforting like the old teddy bear you used to clutch at night (or in my case, the stuffed penguin with a nose that has been sewed back on too many times to count because my baby self could not stop chewing it off). This is my teddy bear drink.
The thing is, many people I know have this notion that milk is really bad for you. So it seems I’m drinking it less and less. One of my teachers actually sent me to the site milksucks.com and this has made me now purchase organic milk. I can’t go off milk completely, I mean..dairy..it’s a food group, right? I suppose I could buy soy or almond milk. I may make the change later. But for now, I’ll be drinking cups and cups of hot chocolate until I start to thaw out.
Melted Marshmallow Hot Chocolate Ingredients
You just need 6 simple ingredients to make this homemade hot chocolate recipe. All you need is:
- unsweetened cocoa powder
- white sugar
- hot water
- whole milk
- chocolate chips
- large marshmallows
- whipped cream
That’s it!
Tips
Don’t have large marshmallows? Use mini marshmallows. 1 large marshmallow is equivalent to 10 mini marshmallows, so replace the 2 large marshmallows with 20 mini marshmallows.
Make a hot chocolate bar. This hot chocolate is a good base for any kind of variation you can think of. There are many different ways that you can make a hot chocolate bar. I love themed ones over the holiday season with different stations for things you can put on top of the hot chocolate. Make sure everything you put out can last at room temperature for some time. My favorite thing to add include are some flavor sticks, such as a peppermint stick or a cinnamon stick, but sprinkles are always a hit as well.
Variations
Switch up the melted chocolate. If you wanted a sweeter drink, switch it up for white chocolate. But if you want a more intense chocolate flavor, I would suggest dark chocolate chips. But chopped chocolate works as well in place of chocolate chips.
Make this into Hot Chocolate Bombs. All you need is a spherical silicone mold. Then melt some chocolate (chocolate melts are best here) into the chocolate mold, spread it with the back of a spoon and freeze it. Add in the dry ingredients then use some more melted chocolate to seal the spheres. When you are ready to serve them, put the chocolate ball in a mug of hot milk and wait for the chocolate to melt.
Add in some alcohol for a more grown up drink. A shot of whiskey or a bit of peppermint schnapps in this Melted Marshmallow Hot Chocolate goes a long way.
