Peppermint Bark Chocolate Bread

Peppermint Bark Chocolate Bread recipe is basically a cake with melted chocolate and crushed candy canes on top. The perfect dessert for Christmas.

Ingredients

Bread

  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp peppermint extract
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 2/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup milk

Chocolate Bark

  • 1/4 cup red melting chocolate
  • 1/4 cup green melting chocolate
  • 1/4 cup crushed candy canes

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350˚F. Spray the bottom of a loaf pan with cooking spray and set aside.
  • In a medium bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Mix in the eggs one at a time until fully combined. Mix in the salt, vanilla and peppermint extract.
  • In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, cocoa powder and baking powder.
  • Mix half the flour mixture into the wet ingredients, then mix in half of the sour milk. Repeat, and mix until fully incorporated. 
  • Pour the mixture into the prepared pan, and bake in the preheated oven for 60-75 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. 
  • Allow to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before removing and transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • In a medium bowl, melt the red melting chocolate in the microwave for 30 seconds, stirring until smooth. Drizzle on top of the loaf. Repeat with the green melting chocolate. Top with the crushed candy canes.
